AEDs

An AED is an automated external defibrillator, a portable medical device that can help save lives during cardiac arrest. AEDs are designed to be user-friendly and can automatically detect abnormal heart rhythms and deliver an electrical shock to help the heart re-establish a normal rhythm.

There are two Philips brand, Heartstart Defibillator AEDs at the lake available for anyone to use in the event of an emergency. This Youtube video explains how to use the AEDs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjLp3fbekXE , but any adult should be able to operate them without training by listening to the instructions coming from the AED when it is first turned on.

The LKCA is grateful to the numerous people who donated money towards the AEDs, with special appreciation to Harcourts Real Estate that funded one of the units, and to Manawa Energy which generously keeps the AEDs serviced and ready to go in an emergency at no cost to the community.

The AEDs are mounted in bright yellow boxes in:

  • Hans Bay - on the verandah post of the second house on the left when entering Hans Bay
  • Sunny Bight - on the side of the toilet block in the carpark
